We can live sustainably on Earth! Discover what’s possible when you step into Innovation: Earth, our brand-new exhibition that shines a light on the ways we’ll live, move, eat, and work in a carbon-neutral world. Through this immersive, interactive experience, you will gain an intimate understanding of the cutting-edge innovations that are altering our transportation, food, housing, and energy systems.

From urban farms to lightweight electric vehicles to flexible solar panels, this exhibit encourages you to imagine what a sustainable future can look like through the latest green energy technologies, and you’ll uncover a variety of ways scientists, engineers, and local communities are working together to restore and enhance natural climate regulation systems.

Visit the newest iteration of our Immersive Room (do you recognize this virtual city?) and decide what sustainable innovations you would implement, then watch in real time as your choices alter coastlines, main streets, homes, and even highways. Digital interactives like “Would You Rather?” let you see how your responses compare to others who are asked questions about sustainable lifestyle choices (would you rather go vegan or eat some insects?). Test the energy efficiency of incandescent light bulbs versus newer LED bulbs by pedaling a bicycle, then learn how MIT’s autonomous bicycle project explores ways to bring ecologically sound, on-demand mobility to cities of the future.

Not to be outdone by all this technology, several of nature’s “climate superheroes” are represented by displays of an indoor oyster reef, mushroom farm, and rare earth metals that highlight the roles they play in erosion prevention, water quality improvement, and more.

As you move through Innovation: Earth, you’ll see all the ways a green, carbon-neutral future is possible, especially when we all work together to achieve it!

Innovation: Earth is made possible by the generous support of The McChord Foundation. The exhibit’s Immersive Room was created by the Museum in collaboration with multimedia studio Moment Factory.

This exhibit is part of the Museum’s Year of the Earthshot, a yearlong exploration of the climate solutions and the actions we can take now to live sustainably on Earth.
