World’s Largest Coral Found!

What does it mean that scientists just discovered the biggest coral colony in the world? While conducting fieldwork in the Solomon Islands, a team of scientists discovered a coral colony that’s estimated to be 300 years old and can be seen from space! It may not look like it, but coral is actually an animal that forms colonies by producing genetically identical clones. 77% of coral around the world have been subject to temperatures high enough to cause bleaching, but this newly discovered colony is thriving! Scientists will study it to learn how to help other coral colonies.
