Test Your Lung Capacity: DIY Experiment Video Watch time Under 1 minute January 15, 2025 Image How much air can your lungs hold? In this video, Alex Dainis demonstrates an easy at home experiment to find out your forced vital capacity, or how much air your lungs can breathe out. First, take an empty milk jug and fill it with water. Then, tip it into a large, water-filled container and place a straw or piece of tubing into the mouth of the jug. Take a deep breath and blow into the straw, so that the air from your lungs displaces the water in the jug. Mark how much air entered the jug, then empty it and refill it back to the marked line. When you measure how much water it took to fill the jug to the line, you will know the forced vital capacity of your lungs! Topics Human Body Biology Life Science Women in STEM Share
