Seine River Clean Up for Olympics Video Watch time under 1 minute July 24, 2024 Image What does it take to clean up a polluted river? In this video, Museum Educator Sloane explains that efforts to clean the polluted Seine River in time for the Paris Olympics are looking successful. For over a century, no one has been allowed to swim in the Seine because of wastewater pollution. This is partly due to the sewer system in Paris, which sometimes allows sewage to flow back into the Seine when there is too much rain. However, there has been a decades-long campaign to clean up the Seine, including the construction of a giant underground tank to hold excess water. After close monitoring, it appears that the Seine will be clean enough for Olympic athletes to swim in. This shows us how much we can accomplish when we take climate action together!
