Red Dye No. 3 Cancer Risk? FDA’s New Ban

What food dye was recently banned in the United States? Insoo Hyun, Director for the Center of Life Sciences at the Museum of Science, explains that starting in 2027, food manufacturers in the US will need to remove Red Dye No. 3 from their products. This is because it has been shown to cause cancer in male rats. However, humans are typically not exposed to Red Dye No. 3 at the same concentration as the rats were, and the exact hormonal processes that caused the cancers in rats do not exist in humans. Red Dye No. 3 is already banned in Europe, Australia and New Zealand!
