How do you make a battery out of dirt? In this video, Alex Dainis explains that a small container of dirt, a penny, a nail, and an alligator wire can be combined to make a rudimentary battery. When the nail and the penny are placed in opposite ends of the dirt and connected by the alligator wire, electrodes will flow through the wire while ions flow through the dirt to generate electricity! This principle is being researched by scientists in hopes of creating a more sustainable battery to power our planet.
