What happens when two galaxies meet? In this video, we explore the future of the nearby Andromeda galaxy and our own Milky Way galaxy. These two galaxies’ gravities are drawing them closer together, and in 4.5 billion years they will collide. When that happens, they will merge over millions of years to form what scientists are calling the “Milkomeda” galaxy. Existing star systems like our solar system will slide past each other, and the gas clouds from these two galaxies will mix and start creating new stars!
