Making Science Accessible: A Call to Action

Why are scientific papers difficult to read, even for scientists? A scientific paper from researchers in Italy and Finland shows that long sentences, jargon, and overuse of acronyms can make scientific papers less accessible by hampering their science communication. The study looked at more than 24 million paper titles as well as more than 18 million abstracts! This poses issues of accessibility for the public, which funds much of this scientific research, as well as for other scientists who need to evaluate new discoveries.
