Legless Lizards: Evolution in Action

Did you know that lizards can be legless? Not to be confused with snakes, European legless lizards like Curly have eyelids and external ear holes, two features not found in snakes. They actually evolved from legged ancestors, but they slither underneath the soil using their noses as shovels, and only come to the surface to hunt. Because of this, legs only got in their way, leading them to lose them through evolution!
