Hypoallergenic Cats with CRISPR Video Watch time Under 1 minute January 22, 2025 Image Could it be possible to cure cat allergies? In this video, Alex Dainis explains how scientists are using CRISPR to create cats that produce reduced amounts of the Fel d 1 protein. About 20% of people are allergic to cats, and the Fel d 1 protein, which is found in cats’ saliva and oil glands, is the cause of many of those allergies. Scientists have been able to break the gene that produces Fel d 1, which causes those cats to produce far less Fel d 1. This does not harm the cats, and greatly reduces the allergic reaction to them!
