Flowers Change Color with This Science Experiment Video Watch time Under 1 minute September 7, 2024 Image Did you know that science can turn your plain white flowers into a colorful bouquet? In this video, Alex Dainis demonstrates how capillary action can help us create multicolored flowers. Flowers drink water through tiny straws in their stems called xylem. We can see these effects of the xylem by adding food coloring to a flower’s water: as water evaporates from the petals, the colored water is pulled up through the xylem, resulting in the petals turning the color of the water!
