What can frogs tell us about the health of an ecosystem? In this video, Museum Educator Jason explains how amphibians, such as gray tree frogs, can help predict the futures of ecosystems as indicator species. Amphibians make good indicator species because they are very sensitive to changes in their environment, such as pollutants or rising temperatures. By studying populations of indicator species, scientists can determine whether an ecosystem is healthy, or out of balance. With this knowledge, we can change human behavior to help preserve the well-being of local ecosystems.
