What’s the right way to blow your nose? In this video, Insoo Hyun, a Bioethicist and the Director of the Center for Life Sciences at the Museum of Science, explains how most people blow their nose by taking a tissue and blowing hard with both nostrils. But this is not the best method, according to ear, nose and throat doctors! Blowing the wrong way can damage blood vessels inside your nose, leading to nosebleeds, as well as push mucus towards your inner ear, causing ear infections. It’s better to use a tissue, close off one nostril, and gently but steadily blow through the other. You should then repeat on the other side until you’re all clear. Don’t forget to wash your hands after!
