If you could take a test that told you whether you have Alzheimer’s disease, would you? Insoo Hyun, Director of the Center for Life Sciences at the Museum of Science, discusses how researchers are developing a simple blood test that looks for amyloid beta and tau proteins that are associated with the disease. Unlike current Alzheimer’s tests, this test would be able to be performed in a primary care clinic, meaning that detecting Alzheimer’s disease could become more accessible. However, the blood tests are currently only 60% accurate in clinical settings, meaning more work needs to be done.
