Pre-College Engineering for Teachers
The Pre-College Engineering for Teachers (PCET) Project is a professional development program for K-12 teachers that aims to strengthen participating teachers' knowledge of engineering concepts and processes and promote the integration of the engineering design process into lessons. Participants attend a summer workshop that introduces them to engineering and technology content, pedagogies, and strategies for incorporating these disciplines in their classroom. During the subsequent school year, participants implement an engineering design activity in their classes.
PCET began in 2003, working with high school teachers and has moved through each grade band (high school, middle school, and elementary school). During summer 2007 the last set of Teacher Institutes will be held for elementary (grade 1-5) teachers. The project will have reached over 500 Massachusetts teachers when it concludes. PCET is a collaboration between the Museum of Science (Boston), Tufts University, WPI, and UMass Lowell. Summer workshops are held at the three universities.
